UTKAL BHARAT SLAMS GOVT FOR UNRULINESS AT CBI OFFICE Thursday, 06 November 2014 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR Reiterating his demand for Supreme Court-monitored probe into the ongoing CBI investigation into the mega chit fund scam, Utkal Bharat president MA Kharebela Swain on Wednesday slammed the State Government for the unruly scene created by ruling BJD supporters in front of the CBI office here after the arrest of Banki BJD MLA Pravat Tripathy. “The CBI personnel had a tough time taking Pravat Tripathy to court as hundreds of ruling party MLAs blocked the vehicle carrying him. They abused the CBI and the media and threatened to assault media persons if anyone dared to take Tripathy’s pictures. As the BJD supporters shouted slogans, a handful of State police personnel stood mute spectators,” alleged Swain. He said that in a democratic country supporters would demonstrate for their leaders. But the way the police stood silent onlookers raises questions about their role, he remarked. “The State police present at the site did not act when very aggressive slogans were raised for which the CBI was forced to defer Tripathy’s production in court by several hours. But even after three days of the incident, not even a single protestor has been arrested,” wondered Swain, further alleging that it proves that the State Government is out in full force to block an independent investigation by the CBI. He informed that he has written a letter to Chief Justice of India Justice HL Dattu appealing him to ensure a SC-monitored probe. Utkal Bharat urges Supreme Court to monitor Odisha chit fund scam probe Odisha Sun Times Bureau Bhubaneswar, Nov 4: Expressing grave concern over the modus operandi of the ruling BJD government in Odisha and alleging that it is trying its best to scuttle the CBI investigation into the mega chit fund scam, the Utkal Bharat has sought early intervention of the Supreme Court in the matter. Kharavel Swain Bringing to the notice of the apex court, former MP and president of Utkal Bharat, Kharabela Swain, in a letter to the Chief Justice of India HL Dattu on Monday said hundreds of ruling party supporters had gathered in front of the CBI office in Bhubaneswar on November 1 and blocked the vehicle which was carrying senior BJD leader and former government chief whip Pravat Tripathy to the court to seek his remand for interrogation on his alleged links with the chit fund company, Artha Tatwa Group. While the irate BJD supporters raised abusive slogans against the CBI, they also threatened a CBI inspector with dire consequences. Apprehending trouble, the CBI officials were forced to lock the gate and office from inside and had to defer Tripathy’s production in the court by several hours, Swain said. Questioning the role of the Odisha Police,who were deployed at the place of occurrence and had stood like mute spectators, he said the state police have not arrested a single protestor after three days of the incident. “This proves that the state government has taken all possible measures to block the independent investigation by the CBI in the chit fund scam”, he added. He prayed the Chief Justice to personally monitor the chit fund scam investigation by the CBI to deliver justice to the poor and duped depositors.
