Uduaghan signs judiciary’s financial autonomy law Gov. Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta on Wednesday signed the State Judiciary Financial Autonomy Bill and the State Model Primary Schools Bill 2014 into law. The governor said the law would ensure complete independence of the third arm of government and also give legal backing to model primary education in the state. The bills were presented to the governor for his assent by the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Mr Peter Onwusanya. Uduaghan stated that his administration was giving legal backing to its programmes to ensure their sustenance. He said that the judiciary’s financial autonomy bill, apart from guaranteeing its financial independence, would reduce industrial actions in that arm of government. Uduaghan explained that “funds are to be released quarterly to the judiciary under the law based on revenue that actually accrues to the state.’’ The governor said the model primary schools law would ensure sound education necessary for the youths of the state, adding that schools were designed to promote excellence. “Government is about laws and what we are doing as a state is to ensure that those programmes that we have put in place are not jettisoned when we leave office.
