Uganda: Marketers Wind Up the Year in Style 4 November 2013 , By Samson Baranga, Source: Observer End-of-year parties can officially start. Why not, after the lid was lifted by the Marketers Night last Friday at Kampala Serena hotel? It was the third and final Marketers Night this year. And it was a night of motivation served with fine food and lots of free Tusker Malt Lager. The party kicked off around 7pm with a cocktail in the foyer before guests were ushered into Victoria hall for dinner. The competition in the marketing industry may be tough but here, it was time to unwind and catch up on how the year has been. But the night never ends without presentation on challenges facing the industry and the way forward. Pepe Minambo, the founding director of The Motivator Africa, delivered the keynote address. A motivation speaker of Congolese descent, Minambo travels the world inspiring audiences with talks about self-awareness, self-actualization and community aspiration. He has also authored books including Be Inspired Before You Expire, Inspired For Greatness and Deciding Your Destiny, among others. In his address themed, New Frontier Thinking: How Mavericks Move Businesses From Good To Great, he urged the audience to think outside the box as the only way to build brands and blossom careers. Your career will never blossom to the fullest until you begin questioning things like your companys strategy or your job description, he said in a speech delivered with so many visual puns. He spoke about how average students get average results and average jobs, ending up with an average wife and kids before leaving this world with an average funeral. Uganda Breweries Limited marketing director, Grace Nshemeire, described the event as an opportunity to meet up with peers and new acquaintances and forge new working relationships and friendships. A party is not complete without music and good food. The hotel prepared a sumptuous buffet, which was washed down with beers and Alvaro for the teetotalers. Mitch Egwang, the nights emcee, kept the event lively and guided the guests through a tough but exciting quiz time where the winning team walked away with Shs 2 million. Urban Jazz band provided the nights entertainment. The event was organized by Marketing Africa, a regional magazine about the industry, and it was sponsored by Tusker Malt.
