Uganda is Bigger Than NRM - Prof Kagonyera Makerere University Chancellor Prof Mondo Kagonyera has termed as unwise, the practice by some Ugandans holding leadership positions abroad, of speaking ill of the current NRM government and president Yoweri Museveni, for personal sentiments. By Sam Waswa Prof Mondo Kagonyera says critics should draw line between Uganda and NRM Prof Mondo Kagonyera says critics should draw line between Uganda and NRM In the quest to belittle the reputation of the current government in the face of especially developed countries, Prof Mondo said, they end up tarnishing the image of their mother country, yet such actions take long to undo. Speaking Thursday at the inauguration of Makerere Universitys Endowment Fund board of trustees headed by Dr Martin Aliker, the former State Minister wondered why some Ugandan ambassadors and holders of top positions in International bodies abroad would specialize in disparaging the government which they know will last only for a while. It is astonishing that some Ugandans can hardly differentiate between a government and a country, he said, without mentioning names. “All our foreign envoys should emulate Ambassador Edith Sempala who has impartially represented Uganda in Sweden and USA,” added Kagonyera. Sempala is a member on the new board. This government and the president will not be here forever. They will inevitably have to go in a short while, even if you dont fight them. But our nation Uganda will remain here forever. Speaking ill of president Museveni or toiling to bedevil his person, would change nothing but ruin the image your mother nation, and you will never have another. Kagonyera said that for remaining silent about the governments misdeeds, many of his colleagues had branded him stupid. But I have never been stupid. I am not looking for money or reputation. My passion is and will remain; putting my county first and I wish what everybody else would do the same. Our focus should be on how to develop Uganda, how to make it attractive, how to ensure that there are good services and every citizen is living a in good environment.
