Ugh--parenting dilemma. The Brick borrowed an Eiffel Tower - TopicsExpress

Ugh--parenting dilemma. The Brick borrowed an Eiffel Tower erector set from the Teen. He has done this before with no problems. He likes to use it with his lego minifigs. Last night he returned it and the Teen said to put it on his desk. The Brick returned it and on we went. While in yoga this morning I get a text pic of a smashed Eiffel Tower. Turns out the Brick couldnt find space on the Teens desk so he set it on the floor by the desk. Now, the Teens room is a sty (to put it nicely) and I have been on him all week about getting it cleaned up. There was no room on the desk, but the Brick didnt say anything. This morning the Teen rolled his desk chair into the Eiffel Tower and squished it---badly--like beyond fixing. He told the Brick he was not allowed to borrow any more items for a while. I get it and do not disagree. However the Teen thinks the Brick should buy him a new set. $100!!! I get it, but I dont know if I agree.....I kinda think the blame is equal. There was no spot on the desk and it was in sight on the floor. The Teen just didnt see it........ Ideas?? Thoughts?? And of course Hubs is out of town and not very accessible this trip.
