Ugh.... and so it starts... I always feed Quito and Lucy in the same rrom but apart. Sometimes not very far apart but each with their own food in their own bowls. They wait while I put the food in the bowls and then sit and wait while I put the bowls down in front of them. Quito always finishes first and then I make him leave the kitchen, mostly so I can wipe up the excessive drool from the floor. I stand in front of them and wait, always feeling kind of lucky that they do so well together. But, tonight I only gave Lucy a tiny bit of food because she has diarrhea from eating something terrible in the yard. So, she finished first and before I could grab her she sniffed at Quitos food. He is a Dogo who will let the cats eat from his bowl while he is eating, but tonight when Lucy got near his bowl he gave a tiny growl. I grabbed Lucy and let him finish. When I started cleaning up the bowls he went over to the food container and was looking around for more and Lucy followed him. Usually she does that because hes already out of the kitchen. He growled louder and more forcefully. Needless to say they both got immediate time-outs in separate rooms. But .... thats probably the beginning. A lot of training, structure and care is needed now as Lucy matures. Two Dogos together can be a problem. Overall, Quito is so mild and he really likes Lucy. But even if she is bigger (as I suspect she will be) and stronger in temperament (as I know for sure she is) he still will not allow her to dominate him in any way. Its my job to make sure that never happens. :-/ Bummer. The dream period is coming to an end.
