Ugh, even worse (see previous two posts on Charlie Hebdo), that cartoon with the Muslim man being shot through his Quran, was made to mock the massacre of nearly a thousand (largely but not entirely) Muslim protesters in the first days of the presidency of Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, former head of Egypts military, who gained power through a bloody military coup overthrowing the elected president. That disgusts me. No one deserves to die for that, but this information needs to be out there, terrorism isnt just about radicalisation and distorted religious propaganda, we need to take responsibility as societies for the seeds we sow, vilification/hate speech/ostracising and showing no compassion/media coverage for certain groups of people is one of the seeds we sow (honestly, in the Guardian article its cited as worse than the Tiananmen Square massacre, but I dont remember media coverage presenting it that way back when it occured). Poor mental health/social services for those vulnerable to radicalisation is another. We need to not just treat the symptoms of an unjust and violent society, we need to identify the roots, not allow them to remain buried. theguardian/world/2014/aug/12/egypt-massacre-rabaa-intentional-human-rights-watch globalresearch.ca/egypts-illegitimate-president-abdel-fattah-el-sisi/5384112
