Uh...I realize Im a little bit late weighing-in here, but the federal governments assault (both times) on the Waco compound back in 1993 was one of the worst abuses of power since the inception of our nation. Three quick thoughts: 1) It is a long-established fact religious leader David Koresh regularly went into town two or three times a month (to a local record store; apparently he fancied himself a guitar player). You think it MIGHT have been a good idea to serve warrants on him THERE?; and, 2) Listen sometime to the 911 recordings of the FIRST assault, in which one of Koreshs top colleagues shrieks into the phone, Help us! Help us! Theyre KILLING us! The clueless operator responds, Now WHO are you, and WHERE are you?; and, 3) I assure you one of the most heartwrenching things you will ever do is view the videotapes of the children of Waco, looking directly into the camera and pleading, Please dont come kill us. We dont want to die (the government refused to allow release of these tapes until AFTER the second assault). Old news? Yep. Ever forgotten? Nope.
