Uh, ok. After I got over my initial coronary (figure of speech, kinda. Glad my heart meds working!) of helping (watching) Pop Reg carefully go down the front stairs on his own (I had the walker in position at the bottom of the stairs for him), the rest of it (getting both Collette folks into the car and getting over to the docs office for Pop Regs appointment) seemed to be a breeze. Van faces the house so that Pop Reg can slide into the passenger seat behind my drivers seat, and then I take his walker and put it in the back of the van. Then I back out of the driveway, turn the van around and back the van in, so that when Mom Caroline walks to the van with her walker, she can just slide in the front seat passenger seat. I then take her walker and put it in the back of the van. Then I drive the van forward til we get to the foot of the driveway, put the van in park, wheel moms wheelchair down the front stairs and into the back of the van. All loaded up, we head out. Once at the docs medical building, I unload moms wheelchair first (playfully dubbed wheely chair or Harley Davidson) to her door side, she slowly gets into her wheelchair, and wheels herself into the medical building. Meanwhile I then go to get Pops walker out of the back of the van, bring it over to the side sliding door of the van, Pop gets out, takes his walker, and I gently guide him from van into the medical building to his doctors office - mom follows her wheelchair along side us. Lovely site to behold, the three of us. :)!! Some sort of mishap on the sidewalk near the front door of the medical building. Pops walker went out of control and Pop began to take a nose dive to the pavement, I caught his jacket and pulled (thrusted) him back, so he and I did a back and forth balancing act there for about a minute until Pop was able to regain balance again. After that, the walk went smooth. The doc took Pops blood, did the urine sample, and the urine sample came back infection, possible bladder infection, so Pop got antibiotics. We had a lot of questions for the doctor, he took time and gentle care to answer each question in full detail for us to understand about Pop. Pop got a booster pneumonia shot. Mom, Pop and I now have, from the doc, new directions to follow. Waiting for blood results, waiting for more information on urine sample. Doc wants to hear results from Dementia doc (neurologist) next week and then back surgeon doc (top of february) Pops physical body is doing, overall, pretty good. Doc mentions that Pops continual mental decline will/has a huge impact on how much farther he can physically get, and, how long he might be able to hold the progress he currently has made...however, to keep in mind continual mental decline, Pop will go just so far,and will only be able to hold progress made for just so long before further decline ultimately is expected to set in Many questions asked...quite a bit of details to learn, absorb, and adapt to. One day at a time. Tomorrow is another day. Pop did really great today, stairs and all. Mom wheeled her wheelchair by herself beautifully today...GREAT job to both parents for their exceptional mobility capabilities today!! BRAVO!!!
