Umair Haque says extremely True words here Im gonna make 5 points about suffering and empathy. Ill be brief 1. What makes the US unique among rich nations today is the scale of unnecessary suffering. Its staggering. 2. The streets where I am are lined with homeless; milling around in a blizzard. That theres nothing for them to but suffer do is absurd. 3. But what makes the US special is its lack of empathy for suffering. Life expectancys falling; were working on...chat apps. 4. Great things are born of great empathy. We only change the world when we refuse it; we only refuse it when we can feel its pain. 5. Without empathy, we will always be something like robots; obeying our program. Only empathy gives us a reason to rebel. People are homeless because of those who have income $$ do not reach out to the poor in a way of seeing self.... No equality anywhere/
