Umrah trip becomes last journey for 12 Jordanians The wreckage of the fateful bus that was carrying Jordanian pilgrims being removed as covered bodies lie at the accident site on Thursday. | | A A JEDDAH: IBRAHIM NAFEE Friday 14 June 2013 Last Update 13 June 2013 10:51 pm Twelve Jordanian Umrah pilgrims were killed on Thursday in an accident as they were traveling from Makkah to Madinah. Ali Al-Zahrani, spokesman of Makkah traffic department, said that investigations are under way to find the reasons for the accident that also injured 34 pilgrims. “The bus was carrying 46 Jordanians when the accident happened on Jamom road between Makkah and Madinah,” Al-Zahrani said. Seven pilgrims were treated at the accident scene. Col. Saeed Sarhan, the Civil Defense’s spokesman in Jeddah, said the operation room of the Civil Defense received a traffic accident report and sent rescue teams and ambulances to the site. Injured passengers were airlifted to hospitals in Makkah and Jeddah. Three injured passengers were moved to King Abdul Aziz Hospital, 22 to a hospital in Makkah and four to King Faisal Hospital in Jeddah. Top officials, including Homoud Al-Buqami, traffic department director; Brig. Hilal Al-Qurashi, accidents office director; and Salman Al-Mutairi, accidents department director; were seen at the scene of accident.
