According to the directives by the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia, residents and crescent watching teams prepared to sight the Shawwal moon on Tuesday evening. However, the crescent was not sighted in various parts of the kingdom. The next sighting exercise has been called for tomorrow evening, that is, after sunset on Wednesday, 7 Aug. If the new moon is spotted tomorrow, then Eid will be on Thursday. Otherwise, Muslims in Saudi will enjoy the complete 30 days of the blessed month and celebrate Eid Al-Fitr on Friday, 9 Aug. Many astronomers had dismissed previous reports that the Ramadan moon was erroneously sighted a day late. Today’s failure to sight the moon means that Muslims will not see the very rare 28-day Ramadan this year.
