Unbroken....Brutal, incredibly brutal....Disturbingly brutal. I - TopicsExpress

Unbroken....Brutal, incredibly brutal....Disturbingly brutal. I turned away a few times. The movie focuses on Louis Zamperinis time in WWII, as a bombardier, 45 days adrift at sea, and years as a POW. His life before the war was included, effectively, through flashbacks. Zamperini is beyond heroic, he draws upon a will not only to survive but to defy death. One of the frequent critiques of this movie was its preoccupation with his torturous ordeal as a POW and not enough about his path to forgiveness. I believe that is a valid criticism. I would liked to have seen how he overcame and forgave. Angelina Jolie, to her credit, does not make this the US against Japan. She focused on the personal resentment of one Japanese prisoner of war guard and his mind boggling mistreatment of Zamperini. Unbroken is well worth seeing. However if physical brutality deeply bothers you may want to rent or stream it and see it at home where you will have more control over what you see (fast forward). https://youtube/watch?v=XrjJbl7kRrI
