Uncle Bo’s Blues Newsletter…… We are still a few of the people that each morning our paper arrives in the yard. I’m eager to get to it especially on Friday for the Out & About. Bill Blankenship researches, responds, and tries to put out all that is going on in Topeka. Without this press I feel our work to “keep music live” in Topeka would have faulted. I have noticed that we have so much going on that it would be hard to pick between all the events, but he somehow gets it done. Big kudos to Bill Blankenship. Uncle Bo’s as of Sept 10th will be 9 years old, pinching myself each day is not enough, need a little shock treatment. We started months before designing, collecting, and putting this small corner together for live entertainment called Uncle Bo’s. Our first band Back Porch Blues Friday, and Jimmy Thackery on Sat. We weren’t near ready, had lots of bugs to iron out, always with more to appear, but generally with a steady flow of outstanding entertainment, great audiences, food, drink and personality’s of the Bo’s girls, and rooms over our heads, it’s been an amazing experience. We are headed to our 1,000th show on Oct 3rd with Stacy Mitchhart, come celebrate with us, not just then, but always. I try to emphasize the importance of remembering that going to Memphis is a networking, fun experience, you might not get famous, you might not make it to the finals, but you will meet the most incredible people, heard the best music, and who could go away without eating chicken and waffles, of course at Miss Polly’s. Topeka Blues Society volunteers work all year to help send our challenging band and solo/duo to Memphis, put them on the stage at our Spirit of Kansas Blues Festival, Summertime Blues and many more events around town.
