Uncle Harry Methvin and I visited his friend, Miss Leona Spikes today. She will be 90 in April. She gave us a tour of the church she worshipped at until it closed. She told of the days when it was filled to capacity and the glory would be sang and preached down. Unbeknownst to me until I heard her story, I had visited with her last pastor in the nursing home today. We noticed the pulpit was worn down on either side where numbers of preachers had gripped it as they preached. Oh, if these walls could talk. She also gave us a tour of the one room school house the community built in 1918. It is solid as a rock due to the quality of the building material and the craftsmanship of the builders. She showed us report cards of her siblings from 1927 and 1934. She told stories of her life,schooling and work. Her mind is clear and she is sharp as a tack.We held hands and prayed as we left. What an honor to be in the presence of this lady. I will be returning for another visit with my new friend.
