Uncomfortable thoughts to think -- especially coming from a man like JS Mill, long regarded as a pillar of western Liberalism, & rightly so. People tell me sometimes, Theres nothing war can do, that peace cant do better, & in doing so entirely ignore that peace never would have done a thing to stop the Nazis or to liberate western Europe from their scourage. But here in placid, complacent America, we have no idea at all any more what its like to be forced into a war by someone determined to do your national society ill, & because we dont, its all too easy to mouth platitudes about things well likely never experience. If you really want to go beyond rhetoric, I suggest Michael Walzers Just & Unjust Wars as a good place to start.
