Uncommon Wisdom: Only those opposed to forced social security have a moral right to collect it (1). The Bible does not say to help the needy and the poor by steeling property from others (2). Compassion is a volitional act. Forced compassion is not compassion, it is theft by the taker and unearned stolen property for the receiver. Compassion and obeying the Bible is properly expressed by giving personally earned property as a gift to a receiver in need. This is what Churches and charity organizations do and is the proper way for a free people to engage in collective social security. Insurance or investment is the proper way for individuals to provide their own old age security. The Government tries to provide both charity and insurance by the means of theft, i.e. redistribution and does neither well. This appeals to those who wish to dilute individual responsibility into a forced collective duty. A moral person opposes theft and respects property rights and therefore has a right to restitution for property stolen from them. Those who support theft have morally and philosophically denied property rights, the bases of freedom, and therefore have no rights to justice or restitution regarding their own stolen property. Collectivism, the concept behind Communism, says that the collective has a right to plunder the individual for the greater good. Individualism, the concept that America was founded on, says individuals have property rights that are inalienable and the government has a Constitutional duty to protect those rights, not violate them (3).
