Und es gibt sie doch ! - säkulare Milizen in Syrien - aber der Westen unterstützt sie nicht... Syria Deeply stellt Bassam vor, der sich selbst als säkularer Rebell bezeichnet und in einer nichtreligiös orientierten Brigade gegen das Assad Regime kämpft. Ein interessantes Interview, auch wenn es manchmal ein wenig zu idealtypisch klingt für das, was gerne als die Moderaten innerhalb der syrischen Opposition bezeichnet wird. Warum die Bassams in Syrien allerdings, egal wie viele es am Ende nun sind, nicht massiv aus den USA und Europa unterstützt werden, das bleibt eine, nein, die große Frage. Bassam klagt, seine Brigaden würden von niemandem unterstützt, anders als die Islamisten, aber nach dem Sturz Assads würde man sich daran machen, Al Qaida & Co in Syrien zu bekämpfen und zu vertreiben: Al-Qaida is the one thing that will unite Syrian people after the revolution, because all of the Syrians will want them out – those who are now with the regime and those who are against the regime. Nobody likes these people. We will have to fight them to get them out. After the regime falls there will have to be a new military formation to confront these radical movements. We will join this new national formation to oppose them. The moderate brigades will join in to fight these extremists. They already don’t like them and sometimes fight against them now. Was er bezüglich eines möglichen amerikanischen Angriffs erzählt, dagegen klingt wie allgemeiner Common Sense unter allen Rebelleneinheiten. Man hofft, die USA bombardieren nicht nur symbolisch, sondern legen die gefürchtete syrische Luftwaffe lahm, und im Chaos nach einem Militärschlag werde man dann möglichst die Gunst der Stunde nutzen: We expect the U.S. is going to hit the airports and centers of military leadership and administration. In our area we don’t have either, so we’re not expecting it to hit our area. But what we’re expecting is some chaos and anarchy in the regime’s ranks in response to the strike. If that happens we’re going to try to make gains from that.
