Under 11 Hurling The Under 11 hurlers also took part in the end of season blitz at Rathkeale last Saturday afternoon. We played two matches, and took to the field first against Cois Laoi Gaels. Summer does not seem like so long ago, but when one of our hardiest campaigners was asking to be taken off after five minutes because he was frozen, you knew that winter is beginning to bite already. Cois Laoi Gaels seemed to be handling the conditions better and pressed hard early on. They scored some lovely early points, while a superb diving save from Conor Murtagh prevented them from extending the lead further. We trailed 1-4 to 0-0 at half time, the sort of scoreline that could easily develop into a hammering, but we held firm in the second half. Harry Page took over the goalkeeping duties and dealt very well with a number of tricky situations. Eamon Flahive, Tom Morrisson and Keith McKeogh showed some lovely touches, while Conor O’Halloran, Tom Morrison and Dermot Moloney worked hard throughout in a game that saw us go down 1-7 to 0-2 against a team that taught us some lessons in skill and sharpness. Our second encounter was against Templeglantine, and two early goals seemed to set us on our way, but our opponents came back strongly, leaving us 3-1 to 1-2 ahead at half time. We held on to win 4-5 to 1-4 in the end. One outstanding feature of the two matches was that it was not a case of the usual suspects carrying all the responsibility. Ciaran Kenny and Conor Galvin played superbly throughout, and would ordinarily have been candidates for man of the match in either game, if it wasn’t for a brilliant showing from Odhran O’Dwyer, who was our outstanding player by some distance. Thanks to everyone who came out to support, especially to Rosemary Lynch for sustaining the troops with a plentiful supply of jaffa cakes between matches. Team; Odhran Dwyer, Eamon Flahive, Conor Galvin, Tom Morrison, Conor O’Halloran, Brian O’Meara, Harry Page, Liam Lynch, Daragh O’Hagan, Conor Murtagh, Conor O’Malley, Ciaran Kenny, Dylan Scanlan, Barry Duff, Ben O’Curry, Cathal Joy, Euan O’Dea, Keith McKeogh, Dermot Moloney.
