Under 11s. We Made It! Today dawned with wet & miserable weather for our final round of the regular season, where we were to host Bateau Bay at Saratoga Oval. With our boys needing to play today & to win to edge Bateau Bay out a finals berth, all other games had been apparently called off due the wet weather. After concerns from our opponents regarding the state of our oval, long negotiations eventually resulting in us hosting the match at our opponents home ground in Bateau Bay. We thank Bateau Bay for ultimately agreeing to play the game, as the kids playing footy is what it is all about. The ground was in amazing shape. You would hardly have known it had been raining prior. The sun even poked through so the match was played in lovely conditions. It was a 14 per side game, with Bateau Bay having a few on the interchange bench. There was terrific vocal support for both teams from the supporting families & in a very low scoring first half, we went to the main break 2 points behind. Our boys answered the challenge when play resumed & kicked 3 goals & some change in the 3rd quarter to take the biggest lead of the match into the final term. The boys held their own in the 4th quarter & went on to win what was a very tense & exciting game 6-10-46 to 4-1-25. Congratulations to each & everyone of our players, who had to walk a sudden death tightrope for the past 3 weeks to secure 4th spot on the competition ladder & earn a finals appearance next Sunday. Whatever happens next week, we are all so very proud of the boys reaching their goal of playing finals footy, given they are largely such a young squad & fact they had a losing streak and a loss of confidence early in the season to overcome. They showed enormous fight & pride in their footy club this season and also plenty of skill to win 8 games this year. Well done Saratoga Hawks u11s!!
