Under Bobby Jindal, Louisiana has committed more than $3.5 billion - TopicsExpress

Under Bobby Jindal, Louisiana has committed more than $3.5 billion to incentivize companies to create jobs here. In almost all cases, these are old-world economy jobs, very few of which require a university education; thats what Jindals dwindling base and his corporate campaign donors prefer. At the same time, Jindal has taken billions of dollars out of higher education, sending most of our university campuses to the brink of financial exigency. Most faculty and staff have not even had so much as a cost-of-living pay increase in 8 years. The jobs being created here have not come cheap either... and aint that the understatement of the millennium! The corporate incentives that the state has given away range anywhere from $120,000 per job created (at Bentler Steel) to over $7 million per job created (at Cheniere Energys LNG export facility). Moreover, the companies that take incentivizes often come and go at will...when the incentives expire, theyre outta here (case-in-point, General Motors). Its not like theyre leaving behind a highly skilled or educated workforce. Basically, they can go anywhere for some new incentives. This is utter lunacy, but people here do not seem to care how badly their state government performs or what new economic atrocities it commits....just so long as the LSU Tigers make the BCS and there are still some fish left in the local bayou (PCB-laden or not). So, in case youre wondering why Louisiana is running such huge budget deficits, despite the claims of job creation, theres your answer. #LouisianaCorruption #BobbyJindal
