Under Mr. Trudeau, the Liberals look very much like the older version of the NDP. The party disclaims the military — as in the ISIS affair — with a readiness very much in consonance with the NDP’s view of such matters. It strums the multicultural, inclusiveness, diversity guitar just as passionately as the party of social justice. And it is surely as green as the NDP. Windmills will find much favour in a Trudeau government. (...) Mr. Mulcair has shown very interesting signs he is not to be a doormat of welcome to the age of Justin. He outflanked the Liberals this week on their own long-time promises on national child-care, a promise the Liberals have had so long in their closet that Mr. Trudeau probably thought they really didn’t need it anymore. Mr. Mulcair’s presence in Parliament, which showed few obvious dividends for so long, is finally starting to tell. The NDP leader has placed himself back in the political equation, and at the very time that the fragility of the Liberals — in having tied themselves so eagerly to their leaders’ persona and lifestyle — is starting to show. fullcomment.nationalpost/2014/10/18/rex-murphy-as-trudeau-stumbles-mulcair-finds-his-moment/
