Under Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 3.6 we are allowed to comment - TopicsExpress

Under Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 3.6 we are allowed to comment on offenses involved and the identity of the person(s) involved, along with his/her occupation, residence, and family status; information already part of a public record; the fact an investigation is being conducted; a request for assistance in obtaining evidence and information; a warning of possible public danger concerning the person (suspect) in question; if the accused has not been apprehended, information necessary to aid in apprehension; the fact that an arrest has been made, along with the time and place of arrest; and identity of the investigation and arresting officers or agencies; and the length of any investigation. For law enforcement agencies, the reach of websites like Facebook and Twitter is providing a valuable tool to catch bad guys before they strike again. We want YOU to police WITH us. We have apprehended several outlaws because of our online followers help. We want the citizens to know where their tax money is going. If we are busy investigating a crime and cannot direct school traffic or patrol streets, we want you to know why. With Facebook you get a much better picture of what is going on in this city of about 3,500 residents. We also know most of the traffic coming in and out of Algood does not live here; so on any given day there could be well over that number. Because platforms like Twitter and Facebook work in near real-time fashion, and many access them via mobile devices, the possibilities are endless, from crisis management and emergency info distribution to traffic updates and more. We want to engage well with our online community, and the public relations impact is fantastic. Most generally have no clue as to how active and successful our police departments are, unless we dig through the weekly police blotter in the newspaper. In Algood, daily updates inform residents of what is going on in a timely manner. Know this, if you enter Algood and commit crimes, you may be on our Facebook and Twitter pages. #share
