Under any other circumstance a young person that strong arms a convenience clerk and tries to steal a box of cigars could easily be characterized as...no angel. In my world an angel is my 3 year old niece who is quiet, shy and loving. We lose perspective when it come to hot button issues, like race, in this country. Is it any wonder we cant seem to deal with this. We are never going to have a real discussion about race in this country, unless we gain rational perspective. Both Black and White need to listen and give space for everyone to give their opinion however naive, insensitive or clueless it comes across to you. There is a deep anger and resentment rooted in this countrys history of racism that belies the tension we all feel. A lot of us carry wounds that continue to be inflicted upon us. The innocent often get wounded in the crossfire of the enraged, and theyre scared for life, usually carrying anger or fear toward the opposite race. The vicious cycle will never end until people can start talking. People wont talk if they are condemned for expressing themselves. In a marriage, you can always get divorced and never see each other again. But with race, theres no avoiding it.
