Under private ownership, you dont know any more how much youre going to have to pay for a specific trip (eg in my case, to London) until you try to book it. A return from Yorkshire to London can cost anything up to HUNDREDS of pounds! And even booking well ahead, Ive not been able to find a fare for my next trip that would compete with the current cost of petrol - which has gone down. Therefore Im compelled, as a pensioner, if I want to see my family in the South, to use the least environmentally friendly option, and drive. Here is just one reason why the railways should be returned to public ownership: so we can get back to fixed, affordable, fares. And lets face it: the balls-ups over Christmas are just the latest examples that prove that private enterprise CAN NOT run the railways more efficiently. BRING BACK PUBLICLY-OWNED BRITISH RAIL!
