Underhill said pipeline ruptures have devastated communities in Mayflower, Arkansas and Kalamazoo, Michigan. Just months ago a spill happened in Mayflower and three years ago in Kalamazoo. Clean up in those areas are still ongoing. "If something like that happened to the pipeline here and it contaminated the Mobile Municipal water supply and three years later it was not cleaned up...for 3 years, the city would not have water. That’s not a city any more. That’s a ghost town." In fact, those are the types of accidents MAWSS and County Commissioners want to avoid. They stated they never got a chance to voice their concerns at the public service hearing in November of 2011 because APSC never informed them.
