Understanding Geography-The framework Chapter one The 32-point compass The 32-point compass gives greater accuracy than the 16-point compass, but is more difficult to read. Even greater accuracy in direction can be obtained by the use of compass bearings. The compass is like the protractor used in geometry lessons and it has the full circle of 360 degrees. North is 0 and 360 degrees, whereas 180 degrees points south. Bearings are often given as the number of degrees in the angle formed between the line pointing due north and the line pointing in the direction required, measured round from north in a clockwise direction. Thank you and join me next week for Chapter 2-National grid squares and grid references goodbye.
