Undoubtedly the Mithila prides itself with glorious past . The region is reach with natural beauties and ample architectural heritage. But it appears that the downfall of kingdom has bereft the region with a guardian . The democracy has only created vacuum and the cultural heritage of Mithila is crying for its caretaker . For thousands of years , the Mithila has remained largely autonomous . No direct control of Delhi was ever imposed on it , and was allowed to prosper on its own . I don’t advocate that we revert back to kingship or that mithilanchal should be carved out as a separate state . But surely Mithilanchal needs a guardian , a caretaker who could restore the decaying glory of the region .The one who owns up things like a parent of a child . Who else could be the guardian of the Mithila than the residents themselves . The intellectual class of Mithila are known for their academic acumen , but have mostly deserted the homeland for better prospects . They must think about this . We require a cultural council – a guardian body which has concern for the preservation of the common heritage and bring the region out of oblivion . A point struck to me that I came to know about Mithila and its cultural heritage only lately . It is highly desirable that schools of Mithila should carry syllabus of local history , culture and geography . This will make them aware of rich cultural past thus inheritors of the heritage .
