The question isnt whether this ideological attack on societys most vulnerable is an effective way to help people find work - it obviously is not. But rather, whos interests does this serve instead? It serves the interests of the bosses who demand cheap labour, the landlords who demand dependent tenants, and the political classes who can point to dangerously misrepresented employment statistics. The majority of people in poverty in the UK are also in work. And according to the politics at work here, thats just fine.
