Unfortunately Cardinal Kaspers replies raise more questions than they answer. Why is what he has done in promoting his positions simply raising questions, etc, but others who seek to address those questions are politicizing things? Apparently it is ipso facto the case that if you publicly address a topic at a time when you have a heightened interest in the subject and are replying to issues raised by someone with whom you disagree this must be politics. Or so it seems when you accept Catholic teaching. But of course the person raising the issues in the context of heightened interest and publishing a book on the subject and granting high-profile interviews is not politicking. Nope. Transparency, honest engagement, and so much we hear when somebody wants to challenge Catholic teaching or practice apparently are not important when church leaders decide to uphold Catholic teaching or practice. What a pity.
