Unfortunately, I was just the witness of blatant racism firsthand in class - incited by a professor, and continued by students. This occurred in the presence of a handful of minority students, nonetheless. When I personally apologized to two of the minority students for the actions of my classmates after class, they both said something like Its cool. Im used to it. They shouldnt have to get used to it. There is no time and no place for that disgusting insensitivity in this society. This is the 21st century. Know your surroundings and love people well. This all comes after the Ray Rice video surfaced this morning, showing Rice, an NFL player, knocking out his then-fiancé and dragging her out of an elevator and into the hallway with a careless swagger. She then MARRIED him not long after. She shouldnt have to settle for that utter disrespect. Men, control equals cowardice. Treat women with real respect, which means serving them and sacrificing yourself for them. I know this seems like a pessimistic rant, but were in need of real people with real values and real respect for other human beings. Men, step it up and figure out how to be a real man. Heres a start: that doesnt include racial insensitivity or any type of disrespect or dishonor towards women.
