Unfortunately another defeat for the club this weekend but against - TopicsExpress

Unfortunately another defeat for the club this weekend but against a very friendly Durley in a highly enjoyable game. With regular skipper Mark being injured Navin took up the reigns and inserted the opposition in a 40 over a side game. We had heard rumours that once we got past their top 4 Durley had not got much batting but unfortunately their top 4 were pretty good including one of their openers who scored an excellent 103. Durley finished on 231-7 and always seemed ahead of the game with their innings. It was also one of those days where the ball just evaded our fielders either in the air or along the ground but we stuck at it in a commendable manner despite the frustration of balls looping over us and the heat. All the bowlers stuck to their task well. Rich 0-27 off 5, Joseph 2-46 off 6, Eswar 1-21 off 4.2 (taking over from Bob who injured his calf), Nav 1-27 off 8 and Pete 1-40 off 8. Special mention also to Rich who took 3 excellent, varying, catches ... bring on the jug!! After an excellent tea, by returning tea-maker Kay, Eswar and Trev opened up. With the high score on the board it was a tricky run chase to manage and, like our fielding, we were always behind the game. From 57-2 we slumped to 91-7 and 131-9 before a spirited last wicket stand between Bob and Kev. We ended up on 174 all out from 30.2 overs. Had we had more wickets intact we might have run them closer but in truth we were second best for most of the afternoon. Certainly one of the most enjoyable matches of the season however thanks to the spirit of the opposition and good banter between the sides that continued to the pub post game. Oh and, I almost forgot, Kev finished -19 for the day! :-) Have a good week all and see you next weekend or at nets on Thursday evening.
