Unfortunately, if one of the babies falls off- momma leaves them behind. I found a baby possum on a hike one day, called the wildlife folks and thats what they told me. Momma possums dont go back for their babies. : / So, the baby possum enjoyed the rest of our hike with us (do yall remember me posting about her? Id named her Bianca ; P) and I took her to a wildlife rehab (where they nurse her to health then release back into the wild when ready). They also told me that if you ever see a possum thats been hit on the road, to check the pouch. Could be a female with babies in there who will also perish if they hadnt during the time of the accident. : (
