Unfortunately, the lack of accountability, and ultimately, the exoneration of Officer Wilson comes as no surprise. Historically, people of color...and even the shade black have been demonized, and therefore, rendered suspect, threatening, then (ultimately) expendable. The stigma persists, therefore the ignorance and slaughters persist. Mr. Browns execution is evidence of how prejudicial fear has shaped our culture. Its one example of how racial profiling and stigmatization has thwarted sound decision-making. Regardless of Mr. Browns size, Officer Wilson was nearly as tall, and considerably more mature than Mr. Brown, and should have had sufficient training and composure to stem any onslaught by an unarmed teen. Whether Mr. Brown was guilty of another crime or infraction didnt quite play out as it could have. However, he was held to the highest degree of accountability...by the judge, jury, and executioners...Officer Wilson, and a weighted criminal (in)justice system that has no loyalty to its citizenry, but sworn allegiance to members of its own fraternity. This is but one of thousands of executions rendered by the hands of those sworn to serve..in law enforcement and other public offices. To be sure, there are honorable police and public safety officers of all ethnicities and backgrounds. But history cant be denied. Police brutality and unrestrained aggression towards minorities and the poor is not new, and the justice system and the American citizenry has stood idly by. The failure to uphold all facets of law and justice during the proceedings of this case made this decision even more incredible. Frankly, it represents little progress from our recent past...when Blacks could be lynched in the street because of a mere accusation from a White citizen... that they were threatened or made to believe they were in danger. How much has it changed? So far, not much. But lets believe there will be an awakening and a commitment to see other perspectives. Ferguson is an opportunity for us to check our own biases. There are no winners in the Brown/Wilson tragedy. And to be certain...justice was not delivered or served..neither to Mr. Brown, or to Officer Wilson.
