Unfortunately, the very framework of racial reasoning was not called into question. Yet as long as racial reasoning regulates black thought and action, Clarence Thomas will continue to haunt black America...as Bush and other conservatives sit back, watch, and prosper. How does one undermine the framework of racial reasoning with moral reasoning...to understand the black freedom struggle not as an affair of skin pigmentation and racial phenotype but rather as a matter of ethical principles and wise politics, and to combat the black nationalist attempt to subordinate the issues and interests of black women by linking mature black self love and self respect to egalitarian relations within and outside black communities. The failure of nerve of black leadership is its refusal to undermine and dismantle the framework of racial reasoning. - Dr. Cornel West: Race Matters I love this passage in Race Matters simply because it highlights a very serious issue with social interaction in and outside of the black community. Too often we look at how race is a factor in how we are treated and not enough at how we treat ourselves and others. I was raised to never let what another person does dictate how you look at and operate in the world...and i see many allowing race to determine how to represent themselves. Too often we are caught shouting and upset regarding racial injustices, but not enough regarding the mentality that has plagued our street corners...images kids see and mimic. Fact is...there is racial tension on this land, it was built on it...there is no denying that. That is ever more a reason for people as a whole to take a step back in silence...look around...and see how much HAS changed versus looking for the similarities. -GM Group
