Unfortunately, this is a correlation. It is flawed logic to draw cause and effect conclusions from a correlation. Firstly, correlations only show a link or relationship between two co-variables where there might or might not be a causal relationship. Secondly, even if there is a causal relationship, the correlational data does not indicate the direction in which cause and effect may go. Therefore, it could be that people who become cops, acquire a more authoritarian personality as a result of working within an authoritarian system. In fact, there is far more empirical, experimental evidence showing the power of the situation as a major factor than there is showing an individual or dispositional personality factor.
