Unfortunately tick season is in full swing already! Weve had many many calls regarding owners finding ticks on their dogs over the past few weeks. We want to make sure that you are doing everything you can to prevent your pets from getting any tickborne diseases. First, please vaccinate against Lyme disease. It is VERY prevalent in our area and the number of positive cases keeps rising. Second, please use a preventative product to kill ticks before transmitting Lyme AND other diseases. Our best recommendation is the Scalibor collar, but we do have other products that we also recommend. Third, if your dog is bitten, they should be tested in 4-6 weeks. We test them here with bloodwork called Snap 4DX that gives us results in 8-10 minutes. It tests for the tickborne diseases Lyme, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasma (the latter two do not have vaccines yet) as well as the mosquito-borne Heartworm disease. Dr. Bell recently took Mudge out through the woods with the Scalibor collar on. This video shows him placing two ticks on her. They never made it down to her skin and were dead within 20 minutes. (We also want to note that she IS vaccinated against Lyme disease.) https://youtube/watch?v=5cxQbPrnyn4&feature=youtu.be
