Unfortunately, we live on the surface of a pond. We never dive in - TopicsExpress

Unfortunately, we live on the surface of a pond. We never dive in deeper to find and discover the real meaning of things. Throughout the scriptures there are many levels of meaning to what we read. It is the same with the commandments as described in the book of Matthew in chapter five. This passage emphasizes that there is a deeper meaning and understanding of the commandments and His Spirit can take us there. As an example, murder is a terrible crime, but Jesus says to go for the root cause of the evil act; i.e. anger. Thou shalt not commit anger is the subcategory of Thou shalt not commit murder. Anger is the sin, or wrong choice, that brought about the act. A good study of the commandments would be to search the roots of each one to identify the reasons that cause each to be broken.
