Unifiber windsurf equipment teamrider Maciek Rutkowski gives you an inside view about his PWA World Tour Windsurfing Canary adventure: Maciek Rutkowski: “I went to Fuerteventura 5 days before the event just to tune back into high winds and small equipment which I hardly touched since the winter in Tenerife. This summer was not exactly what summer in the canaries is supposed to look like and instead of 40 knots every day it was 15-30. Still enough to get on my smallest board and 7 meter sails. I never did good in Fuerte before and after a bad event in Turkmenistan I was really keen to perform. Started of good with a top10 result, but than followed with a very dumb mistake - a premature start as early as the first qualification round of elimination #2. After that I had to fight back with a bad seed and make no mistakes, which I more or less managed to do. I finished 13th which is a solid result, 2nd solid result of this season so I’m quite happy with that, although top10 was relatively within reach so a little unfulfilled feeling stayed. But I’m quite happy as strong winds were never usually my thing, even tough I love it, somehow I couldn’t do good results. In Fuerte I raced safe (sometimes too safe) sticking to my tactics and most of the times it worked so I was stoked with that. Just as I was about to leave the PWA crew informed me that Ive been granted an injury replacement spot for PWA Tenerife and I would grind it out in the trials there. I was over the moon as I already carried all my wave kit with me anyway. So I flew over to TF, had a few practice sessions and faced off a tough trials heat. I managed to sail smart in the small conditions and advanced into the main event comfortably. As the lowest seed that managed to qualify I had to face off Philip Koster - the highest seed. That went pretty smoothly - for Koster haha. I had time to regroup for the double elimination. I drew Flo Jung, who’s a great sailor but was within reach. Unfortunately I couldnt really find good ramps to jump and struggled a little bit with my 5.6 in the air. I lost and was really really gutted - hopefully I can get another chance in the waves, but for now I’m back home organizing an event called “Surfpicnic by Maciek Rutkowski” and regrouping before hitting the slalom course again in Turkey!” More on: unifiber.net/2014/ #MaciekRutkowski #Unifiber #PWA #Slalom #Wave #Teamrider
