Union Street bomb hoax 30.10.2014 Local PUP representative Aaron Dowey has condemned last night’s hoax bomb alert in Union Street in Lurgan. Aaron Dowey said ‘Upon hearing about this alert PUP members, including myself, immediately made ourselves available in the area, liaising between the PSNI and local residents, helping to ensure those in the area were kept up to date with exactly what was going on. Even though this was a hoax device it has caused unnecessary disruption for local people. Those responsible are cowardly and clearly have no consideration for the residents of Union Street, Lurgan or the wider community.’ Aaron continued ‘Every time something like this happens it causes fear, reminding people of the dark days of the past. The people of Northern Ireland are looking to a brighter future but there are those determined to try and hold us back. We hope the PSNI vigorously pursue this investigation and bring those responsible to justice. The alert was raised at 10.30pm and PUP representatives were quickly on the scene, offering whatever assistance was required to the PSNI in dealing with the local community and helping those residents put out by the events.
