Uniquely Indian Habits That We Must Rid Ourselves Of No Sense of - TopicsExpress

Uniquely Indian Habits That We Must Rid Ourselves Of No Sense of Humour Indians do not have anything remotely connected to a sense of humour - especially the knack of laughing on ourselves. If we have to pull legs and make fun of other people, we take part in the whole process rather enthusiastically (remember all the Sardar jokes you cracked not too long ago), but when the shoe is on our feet, we cannot bear its bite. Case in point- how politically driven cartoons are shunned in today’s world, the biggest example being the arrest of Aseem Trivedi following his anti-corruption cartoons last year that, to say the least, were funny, precise and depicted the truth as is. Sadly, we don’t have the ability to hear the truth as well! This a actually a far cry from the days of Jawaharlal Nehru, who said ‘Don’t Spare Me’ to the legendary Shankar Pillai who drew the controversial Ambedkar cartoon. Come to think of it, wit is easily related to intelligence, so does that mean that we don’t even respect intelligence in our country? Absolutely no it seems.
