United Christian Church touched many lives in the Smith family. Located on South R Street in Elwood, Indiana, it was the home to many a lively sermon and revivals. My grandfather, Rev. William Byus Smith, was the pastor there for many years. I remember him preaching like it was yesterday. I would sit next to Grandma Mary and doodle on pieces of paper towel that she would give me to draw on. I remember these things also: - Ringing the church bell - Dottie Rittenhouse teaching my Sunday School Class - Sister Webb banging out songs on the piano - The big painting of Jesus behind the pulpit - The clock on the wall in the design of a ships steering wheel - The little replica of the church that we would drop our coins in during the penny march So many memories!
