United Faith July 9 In view of the blessings promised to those who “agree” as touching anything that they ask of their Father in Heaven; and of the great gift received by those who “continued with one accord in prayer and supplication” some of us as the Lord’s children who desire richer blessings for ourselves and for the church do hereby band ourselves together, as though present in spirit although absent in body to devote a half hour daily to united prayer. The needs we have felt are these: I. Full and definite consecration as the Lord’s children and servants to be what He wills and to do what He wills. Col. 4:12; 1 Thess. 5:23, 24. II. The laying aside of every weight and hindrance whether of sin, infirmity weakness or folly, that no hidden sin like Aachan’s keep us from victory. Ps. 139:23, 24. III. A clearer knowledge of the truth of the gospel wisdom, sound judgment and discretion with such an understanding of the times as to know what we ought to do. Prov. 2:19; Jas. 1:5, 6. IV. Simplicity of heart, a single eye and to be strong and very courageous. Josh. 1:6–9 V. More power from on high and more of the Lord’s evident blessing upon our work. A marked bestowal of His Holy Spirit upon us. VI. More hearty Christian fellowship with the whole church of Christ and with each other, each remembering the needs and interests of one another in our prayers. 1 Sam. 12:23 VIII. True and constant faith in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ that we as a “little band whose hearts God has touched” may be consecrated, sanctified, enlightened, encouraged, strengthened and united in Him! —To _____[?], 1873 Smith, H.
