United Nations Day Part 1 Today is UN Day. This year marks the 69th year since the UN Charter entered into force. To wish the United Nations a happy birthday, we pulled together a collection of quotes that span the almost seven decades of U.S. engagement with the UN. Check them out here: “The Charter of the United Nations 1. which you have just signed is a solid structure upon which we can build a better world. History will honor you for it…It was the hope of such a Charter that helped sustain the courage of stricken peoples through the darkest days of the war. For it is a declaration of great faith by the nations of the earth -- faith that war is not inevitable, faith that peace can be maintained”. - Harry Truman, Address in San Francisco at the Closing Session of the UN Conference, June 26, 1945 2. “It is with the book of history, and not with isolated pages, that the United States will ever wish to be identified. My country wants to be constructive not destructive. It wants agreements, not wars, among nations. It wants itself to live in freedom and in the confidence that the peoples of every other nation enjoy equally the right of choosing their own way of life.” - Dwight D. Eisenhower, 470th Plenary Meeting of the UN General Assembly, December 8th, 1953 Note: US Ca Kuatmi A Si.
