United We Stand-Divided We Fall Never have these words had such a profound effect on our nation as they do today. At every angle we are being divided by race, nationality, religion, status and even gender. We are bombarded with reasons why we should hate one another and look down on those who hold a different view other than our own. It is heartbreaking and detrimental to our society and our nation as a whole when we only see our differences and have not the emotional or mental capacity to see beyond what we ourselves have been taught or deem to be the only true way to live. We are facing a crisis in our nation that affects our entire existence and the whole of humanity itself. We have become a nation and a people divided by things that we have no control over such as our color, our gender, our race, where we were born, what religion we are taught and even the financial standing of our parents. This makes no sense considering not one of us got to choose any of these factors and it only shows our ignorance and our outright arrogance of life itself. When did we become so much better than the rest of the world and each other and decide that we have the authority and the right to dictate the actions of those around us? When did we turn from being the nation that helped each other when times got rough, offering a helping hand to those in need when life dealt them a burden they could not endure? When did we become so saturated with ourselves and our own desires that we forgot we live in the United States of America? When did we reach the point where it’s ok for our sons and daughters to dress and behave like heathens who have no moral background with no consequences for their actions? When did we begin to allow the system to dictate what is best for our children? When did we forget where we came from and who fought for our freedoms and the price that was paid for them? When did we decide it was ok for these very freedoms to be taken away because it would somehow make us safer? When did we become so intolerant of one another and place our opinions and beliefs above our fellow brothers and sisters? When did it become ok to imprison people who have not harmed anyone instead of offering them help for their problems? When did it become ok to make so many laws that it makes normal citizens criminals without the consent of the American people? When did we give over our power and forget that the system works for Americans and not Americans for the system? When did we fall from grace? How do we turn a blind eye to those who have lost their jobs because of corporate greed or the failing economy? How do we sleep soundly knowing that others have lost their homes because they couldn’t pay their taxes? When did the system do anything to warrant a tax on our homes and our vehicles and every aspect of lives? Do they help with repairs or payments on our homes or vehicles? We are taxed for every single item we purchase and for every service we receive, so why do they need more and more? This is not acceptable and should not be tolerated. Our founding fathers would be appalled at what we have become. This once great nation has become the victim of corporate greed and allowed those in power to thrive on our hard work and complacency. We have been taken advantage of at every turn and sat idly by and just watched our own downfall. We have seen our brothers and sisters go to war and die for the profit of a few and the destruction of many. We have seen a staggering number of people lose everything they have worked for their whole lives in a matter of months or even weeks and done nothing. We have seen the moral decline of our youth and call it entertainment. We cannot and will not stand as a nation divided, we will fall. Now is the time we must come together and show a united front that’s not afraid to stand against tyranny. Now is the time to stop and search your hearts to see the truths that hide there, not ignore them. Now is the time to reach out and lift up our fallen brothers and sisters, not keep them down. Now is the time to show what America stands for and what we expect from one another. Now is the time to get armed, armed with love and compassion, kindness and understanding. Now is the time to put away the finger that points and condemns and offer a loving and kind forgiveness to those who have hurt us. Now is the time to show the world that America is the home of the brave, not because of our pride and arrogance, but because of our willingness to love and care for all those who cross our path. I want the America that we sang about in elementary school, I want the America that our founding fathers fought to bring about. An America where all are precious and valued and deemed so by the creator Himself. We all have our beliefs and we should all be able to freely practice those beliefs without restriction. Now is the time to stop arguing about who is right and who is wrong and let each other pursue happiness in the way we see fit to our own lives. We will all be judged one day, we will all have to answer for our actions or lack of, so arguing about it serves no purpose, it only creates animosity and halts the purpose altogether. Whether you believe in God or not is not within my control and I will not force my beliefs on you, I will however be open to you and respect your beliefs, all I ask in return is that you offer the same respect to me. Now is the time to put aside our differences and focus on helping one another survive this dark time, it’s time to ignore the fear mongers and take away their voice by becoming deaf to their cries. Now is the time to shine your light into the darkness so that those lost in it can find their way. It’s not rocket science, if someone is hungry- feed them, naked-clothe them, hurting or sad-be a caring friend and lend an ear or a shoulder to cry on. If you see a need that you can fulfill- fill it!!! This is what it’s going to take to save our nation. It’s going to take us coming together and healing ourselves, we must learn to be free from the system before we can change it!! I want to see America the Beautiful come to be by the actions of its citizens- my fellow brothers and sisters. I got tired of waiting for a change so I have decided to be a change myself. I am trying my hardest to create an event that will bring much needed hygiene products to the homeless along with backpacks, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, snacks and basically anything that I can get donated. I am writing so many different companies in hopes that they will offer assistance. I have found only one so far that has agreed to help and they are sending me the ingredients needed to make organic homemade soaps, shampoos and toothpaste. I will continue with my efforts to make this event a success because it breaks my heart to see so many struggling with no hope in sight. I pray that one day I can go above and beyond and offer a real solution to this problem altogether, but as of right now, this is what I can do and so I shall proceed knowing that I am doing my best to help where it’s needed the most. I am planning on delivering these items to the homeless living on the street, in the shelters and even to the women’s and children abuse centers. If you would like to assist me in my adventure then please do so, it would be deeply appreciated, however if you have an idea of your own to bring about healing and to unite us, then please follow through with your idea because we all need to do our part if we are to succeed as a nation and more importantly as a people.
