Three northeastern states covering one-sixth of Nigeria have been under a state of emergency since May. In November of 2013, Nigeria inflation rate edged up to 7.9 percent, mainly due to higher food prices. While the above fight each other the country is being drained of its natural resources by their largest export beneficiary. Exports in Nigeria increased to 7.08 USD Billion in June of 2013 from 7.06 USD Billion in May of 2013. Oil and natural gas are 95% of all exports and the U.S.A. is Nigeria’s largest export “partner” followed by Equatorial Guinea (8%), Brazil (6.6%), France (6%) and India (6%).
