And take away a handy booklet or DVD that explains it all. In October, the government will begin changing the way benefits and Tax Credits are being paid to working age people who get them. The new system, called Universal Credit, will mean you will receive just 1 payment, paid once a month into your bank account in the same way as a monthly salary. Support with housing costs will be paid directly to you claimant as part of your monthly payment. The changes are being rolled out gradually from October 2013, with everyone affected expected to move over by 2017. So although it might not affect you straight away you need to start getting ready and there are steps you can take now to help you manage your money.
