University of Agriculture, Markudi gets Otukpo campus The Federal Government has approved the establishment of the College of Health Sciences for the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, in Benue state. The college, which will be located in the new Otukpo campus of the university, will accommodate all Health and Medical Science Courses in addition to a modern Teaching Hospital. Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okojie, announced this in Abuja when he inaugurated the governing council of the new college in Abuja on Friday. Okojie explained that the NUC in approving the college at Otukpo, considered the fact that the programme must be relevant to the needs of the environment adding that “as centre of excellence, I am sure it would add value to academics and the entire society”. Besides, he assured that adequate manpower and facilities would be provided for the effective teaching and training of medical personnel, saying that the products of the institution would address the shortfall in medical and paramedical personnel in the country. He urged the governing council to put necessary measures in place to assess about N2.5Billion Naira in the TETFUND for projects in the new college. Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Professor Eugene Okpere, chairman of the governing council, promised to bring their expertise and experience to bear towards the actualization of the mission and goal of the new college. Members of the governing council include Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Professor Emmanuel Kucha, Senator Anthony Manzo, Director General , Nigeria Institute of Medical Research, Lagos, Professor Innocent Ujah; Director General National Agency for the control of AIDs( NACA) Professor John Idoko and Professor Francis Uba of University of Jos among others.
