University to hold ‘zombie run’ close to end of month Times-Herald staff report Zombies will once again infest Vallejo with Touro University California’s 8th annual ‘Mare Island 5K Zombie Run/Walk’ on Sunday, Sept. 21. According to a TUC press release, participants must try to avoid zombies throughout the race and be the first across the finish line before getting “infected.” This year’s event will benefit the Greater Vallejo Recreation District and Global Center for Success. The annual event has raised more than $10,000 since its inception, according to the same release. “The Mare Island 5K Zombie Run is a great way for members of the community to exercise and interact with the students and faculty at Touro University California while having fun,” said, Alan Griffin, organizer and student at the College of Osteopathic Medicine, in the same release. “Our main goal is to promote fitness and health; all walkers and strollers are welcomed and encouraged.” A free health fair will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Lander Hall Gym on campus. The fair will offer osteopathic evaluation and treatment, yoga instruction, face painting and musical performance, officials said. There is a fee to participate in the zombie run/walk and participants will run around Mare Island, starting and finishing at TUC, 1310 Club Drive. To register, visit timeyourrace.
