Unless and until people, black people and white people understand the dynamics of white supremacy and white privilege the conversation surrounding race will NEVER take place in a healthy way in America. America was founded on the premise of white superiority and sewn together by the threads of white privilege. I dont support it, never have and never will. I took part in the Civil Rights movement and the Feminist movement. I burned a bra or two in my day and I believe in womens rights, just like I believe in civil rights. From my Feminist viewpoint, black liberation and womens liberation will never progress or coalesce until black women and white women fight the fight together to stamp out white privilege and white male supremacy. White women have been grumbling for at least two years that men, mostly from the Christian, conservative right have encroached upon their reproductive, social and political rights, rights that would allow them to be treated as equals to men. Two weeks ago a young black 18 year old was gunned down on a city street in Ferguson, Missouri in broad daylight by someone who is supposed to protect and serve.and his body was left in the street for four hours. Everybody knows that story, or one like it. This event has caught the nation and the worlds attention and I have been caught up in this horrific happening because a few days before this child was killed, my grandson was accosted and harassed by the police while sitting on his porch, talking on the telephone. This encounter could have ended just as tragically. I started Project: Save Our children and have been documenting the stories of young black youth who have been similarly harassed. While documenting these stories I have run into white young women who have joined hands with me to try and change the way police in Toledo Ohio interact with our young people, hoping to staunch an episode of what took place in Ferguson. I WRITE THE ABOVE TO SAY:---------------------------- The status that I posted earlier was a status that I shared from the page of a group that I am involved in dealing with RACISM. I did not write the status, I copied and pasted it to my page because I believe in what was said. For those who think that I wrote the piece dont know my style of writing. While the content was something that I firmly believe in, there were some words that I do not know to be true and those would not be my words. I thought that anyone who knows me would know that. *The following words are words I would not use, or think or are not in my being...they are not who I am: And all of you black males with wh!te women, let this video bare witness to the fact that although wh!te women maybe with you, sleeping with you, and having children with you ,her loyalty...... So you say, well why did you write them? I didnt, I copied and pasted the words of another individual and wanted to keep the piece whole, as it was written. I stand by MY words.
